Our friends at Durham School Services are hosting a winter boot drive, November 1 through December 6. New and gently used winter boots can be dropped off at Durham School Services, 511 S Lincoln Street, in Elkhorn.

❄️Operation Warm 2024 - Free Coat, Hat, & Mittens for Elementary Students❄️ On Saturday, November 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Jackson Elementary, the Rotary Club of Elkhorn will be providing free coats, hats, and mittens to children in grades PK-5th. During the year-long blended learning STEM class, students will learn how to design and build a house, using the tools they have learned in STEM class. For the past several weeks, students have been learning about architecture and the basics of architectural design. Students are learning how to use an architectural scale to accurately measure drawings and read architectural plans. An architect's scale is a ratio that compares the size of a drawing or model to the actual structure it represents. It's used to create detailed drawings of large structures within a manageable size. A special ruler, called an architectural scale ruler, is used for measuring. Students have learned how to read and use an architectural scale ruler. They also learned how to accurately measure in order to determine the area of a room in a house. They learned that this information is used to determine how much flooring or ceiling paint to purchase for a room. The STEM class is also learning about planning residential spaces, the different systems in a home, and how to read the symbols found in architectural plans. The class will work on building a house by the end of the year. To do this students will work on designing and drawing walls and rooms using the architectural scales. Each student will build a wall and all of the walls will be combined to make a house. The EAHS Student Council invites YOU to trick-or-treat at the High School on Wednesday, October 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. This FREE event is for children ages 0-8th grade. Stop by for tricks, treats, and fun!

Art Seminar: Students participating in the blended learning art seminar program worked on making owl collages. First students studied images of a variety of owls. Then they selected and drew their owl and found different textured papers that resembled the colors in the owls wings. Using the textured paper, students cut the papers into shapes and matched the direction that the owls feathers were laying. The paper shapes were glued onto the cutout owl. Students really enjoy the art seminar class with Mrs. Monday. The Walworth County Resource Fair is an excellent opportunity to learn more about resources available to all families in our community. Join us at Lakeland School (W3905 County Road NN, Elkhorn) on Thursday, November 7, from 5-7 p.m.

The Elkhorn Area High School held their annual homecoming dance on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. at the Elkhorn Area high school. The week was filled with lots of fun events, including the homecoming parade and football game which was on Friday night. Elkhorn won against Westosha Central! This year's homecoming theme was tropical paradise. Students attending the homecoming dance were given a lei and the gym was transformed into a tropical paradise. Students really enjoyed themselves as it was a night filled with lots of fun, laughter, and making memories!

How will an Operating Referendum affect taxes? The estimated tax impact on this structured referendum would be $25 per $100,000 of property value and will increase each year for the four-year phase-in. The estimated tax impact after four years is $100 per $100,000 of property value. To calculate the estimated yearly net increase in EASD school taxes for a home worth $300,000, multiply by three (3). In year five, 2028-29, the Operational Referendum tax impact plateaus - no longer increasing but rather staying at a consistent level.

The Elkhorn Area School District will ask voters to consider an Operational Referendum on November 5, 2024. Learn more about the referendum at elkhornschools.org and plan on attending our Community Information Meeting on Monday, October 21, at 6 p.m. at the High School.

During our Blended Learning Monday Phy Ed class, Mr. Werth taught students the fundamentals of soccer. After going over the basic rules of soccer, students were divided into teams and got to practice their soccer skills. As you can see, the students were having a lot of fun! Own Your Future! Are you interested in learning more about HVAC? If so, you can explore a hot career opportunity in Gateway’s HVAC Academy! By the time you graduate high school, you’ll complete the first semester of the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating Service Technician Technical Diploma for free, and you’ll be ready to apply your credits toward completing the program in the fall. Options high school students participating in the Blended Learning program learned about native and non-native plants growing in the Options school forest. Students were able to identify goldenrod wildflowers as native pollinator plants that attract many species of bees in the fall, as well as the native Virginia creeper - a vine that can climb up to 40 feet high. Also found in the forest are invasive, non-native plants, such as garlic mustard, creeping Charlie, and chicory - a coffee substitute dating back to the Civil War that is still used today in some areas such as New Orleans. Students had to duck through the understory to go deep into the school forest. Mark your calendars! Options Virtual Charter School will be holding an ACT Workshop for Juniors on Tuesday, February 25 from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Options building. ACT Testing will take place at the Options building on Tuesday, March 11th. Options will also be holding pre-ACT testing for freshman and sophomore students on April 14th and 17th. If you have any questions regarding the testing, please contact Mr. Chandler Kayser, Guidance Counselor at kaysch@elkhorn.k12.wi.us.

Congratulations are in order—four EASD students have been named 2024 College Board National Recognition Program Awardees! Noah A. from Options Virtual Charter School and Gurleen K., Edgar R., and Ava R. from Elkhorn Area High School have all earned this academic honor because of their GPA and outstanding performance on an AP exam!
